Skincare Fact and Fiction: Newest Skin Care Treatments for Blackheads

Aug 2, 2012   //   by   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) February 12, 2008

Skin produces a variety of substances on a daily basis: sweat, sebum and even dead skin cells. In an ideal situation, the amount of sebum, or oil, produced by the skin is consistent. Unfortunately, overproduction of sebum is a common skincare woe, leaving a shiny layer of oil on the skin and, under the right circumstances, a blackhead. Skincare-News.com’s latest article, “Blackheads: Fact & Fiction,” finds that with a few additions to a daily skincare routine, anybody can keep current blackheads at bay and prevent new ones from forming. http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=509

Firstly, what causes this surge of excess oil? There are a variety of possibilities: excessively hot, humid weather, an overabundance of androgens (male hormones); also, a build-up of unexfoliated skin cells can add to the blockage.

The good news is that there are many treatment options for blackheads. Start with a daily cleanser that is targeted for oily skin. Depending upon skin type, exfoliate at least once a week for dry skin, and 2-3 times a week for oily skin with a manual exfoliator. Exfoliating will encourage cell turnover, as well as lift off dirt, grime and dead skin cells from the skin, giving the pores a fighting chance against excess oil!

For very oily, acne-prone skin, a second application of beta-hydroxy (BHA), or salicylic acid, can greatly improve the appearance of blackheads, as well as reduce their occurrence. Because salicylic acid is an exfoliating agent, overuse can cause the skin to become dry or flaky. However, salicylic acid also works best when used regularly, so don’t give up! Instead, alternate how often these products are used, switching to once a day or every other day.

Manual extraction is another common remedy for blackheads. Extractions, normally done during a facial, are the forcible removal of the blackhead from the pore with an extractor — a small pronged tool with loops on either end. However, extractions should only be done under certain circumstances by a trained professional as improperly using the tool can lead to skin damage or even scarring.

As annoying as blackheads can be, they aren’t impossible to treat. Keep affected areas clean and exfoliated and use specialized products to prevent any new formations.

The Eyes Have It!

Up until recently, the only way to get longer lashes was to either use mascara or false eyelashes. Even though false lashes are great for a night out or a special occasion, they tend to fall off after just one wearing and, to reduce the risk of irritation, need to be removed after each use. Make room for the new generation! Today, semi-permanent and permanent eyelash extensions are a hot beauty trend that is quickly gaining a loyal following. And while some versions of eyelash extensions are quite costly, such as mink or diamond-encrusted, for everyday wear, salons and spas are offering a plethora of eyelash extension options to suit every taste and budget.

So much goes into the care and feeding of great skin, but in our haste to get the newest cream, or check out the latest wrinkle serum, we forget some of the whole-body skincare techniques we can call on to keep our skin clear, glowing and healthy. And while the health benefits of exercise is not new information, the beneficial impact exercise has on skin is a side-effect that often gets overlooked. In addition to improved health, added energy and reduced stress, a regular exercise routine is the invisible skincare product that everyone should be using!

Sensitive Skin: Beyond the Products

http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=468

Most people have seen the rows of products on the shelves intended specifically for sensitive skin, and probably spent hours browsing, trying to find the best ones. But people are often unaware of the importance of paying attention to clothing, jewelry, and lifestyle changes as well. For those with sensitive skin, just about anything can be a possible trigger. Shaving or exfoliating can cause rashes or dryness too. In cases of extreme sensitive skin, this extends to household products as well. Detergents, kitchen or bathroom cleaners and hand-soaps can all cause various reactions. Even spicy foods and too much exercise can lead to skin irritation. What can be done? Read on to find out!

Tattoos: Protecting Your Investment

http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=332

With tattoo studios becoming one of the fastest growing in the retail industry, tattoos are more accessible than ever. A tattoo requires the same attention to skincare as the face, if not more. Doing so just might invoke the same enthusiasm and gratification that drove a person to get the tattoo in the first place, and will be more than worth the effort in the long run.
