Orange County Derm Lenore Sikorski’s Patients Save Face with Actinic Keratosis Peel

Laguna Niguel, CA (PRWEB) December 25, 2009
Dr. Lenore Sikorski has garnered exceptional success in AK control with her specialized Actinic Keratosis Peel. For most patients, the procedure has medical insurance coverage.
Pre cancers are a result of long term sun exposure and if left untreated can progress to skin cancers in a percentage of cases. In Southern California the incidence of skin cancer is growing, especially for men and women who are active in outdoor sports or have spent years tanning.
“Patients should pay attention to changes in their skin,” advises Dr. Sikorski. “Actinic Keratosis will often present first as rough patches that are felt before they are seen. Early treatment can resolve AK lesions before they turn into skin cancer.”
What is the Actinic Keratosis Peel process? Dr. Sikorski will first use 15% trichloracetic acid (TCA) to cause destruction and peeling of the abnormal cells. Immediately following application of TCA a cold compress reduces heat sensation which occurs as the lesions respond to the chemical. Finally a layer of 5-FU cream is applied to fully attack and destroy any pre-cancerous lesions.
“An AK Peel will cause some redness and peeling,” Dr. Sikorski explains, “but this is much preferred to surgical procedures later on that may require excising skin and risking scarring – or dealing with potential skin cancer which could metastasize.”
Actinic Keratosis tends to be a recurring problem and to fully control their reappearance, Dr. Sikorski notes that regular peel treatments are usually necessary. A consistent program will keep the skin clear and help prohibit the progression of pre-cancer to cancer.
The Actinic Keratosis Peel can be used on all exposed areas which typically develop AKs – the face, scalp, chest, arms and legs. A bonus of the treatment is improved overall skin quality and tone. TCA peels have traditionally been used as cosmetic procedures for sun damaged skin to lessen wrinkles, discoloration and skin roughness.
Dr. Lenore Sikorski is a dual Board Certified Dermatologist and Cosmetic Surgeon with a subspecialty in Mohs Micrographic Surgery. She is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, a Hospital Consultant for Hoag Hospital and Mission Hospital and an Associate Clinical Professor for the University of California Irvine Department of Dermatology. She maintains a private medical and surgical dermatology practice and an associated cosmetic surgery practice focusing on facial plastics.
Dr. Sikorski’s medical practice, Natural Image OC Med Center, is located in Laguna Niguel, CA. Her practice website, http://www.DrSikorski.com, is dedicated to educational information inclusive of cosmetic surgery, medical dermatology and cosmetic applications of dermatological procedures. How to heal red skin on my face really fast?
Question by pippay: How to heal red skin on my face really fast?
I have these horrible red spots on my face after I popped a few pimples a few days ago. I have tried everything to get rid of these but nothing is working. I put toothpaste on it last night and when I woke up and washed it off it was even more red and ugly. I’ve tried honey, benzoyl peroxide, saline solution, hydrogen peroxide, and nothing is helping. Help me please!!! I can’t go anywhere looking like this
I don’t want to wait a month! I want it gone as soon as possible

I used to have the same problem but tons of pimples and clogged pores with redness. I tried everything until I realized it was all just a reaction from all the stuff I was putting on my face. The best thing to use is something with calendula. California Baby with Calendula cream is amazing. It will reduce inflammation and reduce the redness and bumps within like two days! Its really soothing. You can get it at any grocery or drug store in the baby section.

When I have bad break out, I go into my cupboard and I start whipping up stuff. My skin sometimes just need something natural and once it has calmed down I revert back to the old routine. I don’t want my skin to get use to the DIY stuff since they are gems when you are having a bad week. Vegetable Glycerin: You can buy glycerin but a veggie base is much healthier for you skin. Article: vitatalks.com Acne is mainly caused by blood sugar control issues. Blood sugar imbalance results in excessive insulin production. Excessive insulin levels lead to a greater release of the hormones testosterone and IGF1 – insulin growth factor. Excessive testosterone and IGF1 increases the production of sebum (a fat) and keratin (a protein) within hair follicles. Sebum and keratin excess block hair follicles leading to spots (acne). So the acne solution is: Modify the carbs you eat! Reduce excessive carbs – breads, pastas, potatoes and rice. The main offenders. Remove sugar – this is the most important thing. This includes table sugar, honey, syrups, fructose, glucose/fructose syrup. Eat low GI/GL carbohydrates Eat a protein serving with each meal Eat fibre – lots of vegetables should be the main source. Studies show that: Excessive carbs increase testosterone production = raised chance of spots. Poor quality carbs (high GI/GL) increase the activity of testosterone and IGF1 and result in more acne.
home remedies for acne and scars on my face?
Question by E-dude: home remedies for acne and scars on my face?
what home remedies can i use to clear acne and scars cause by acne

Answer by Erin
Lemon juice and baking soda are suppose to be pretty effective. Also apple cider vinegar. Some people swear by vitamin E although I have never tired it. I believe you just buy vitamin E tablets, punch a hole in one and smear on face. Although not a home remedy, I use 10% aha which seems to be working, although it does take a few weeks to see good results. Depending on the scars, you may have to see a dermatologist as deep and severe ones wont go away without some sort of laser/peel/high strength cream etc. Check out the forums at www.acne.org for some great ideas from people who are going through the same thing. THey have sections for scars and for holistic health, you may find something that works.

black spots on my face from acne, what are some good remedies to clear them?
Question by jamaican shawty.: black spots on my face from acne, what are some good remedies to clear them?
currently i am using Proactive and St. Ives apricot scrub to keep the acne from coming up and it works great, and i use Topiclear(number 1 skin lightening cream) to rid the black spots off of the face, Lately ive been mixing the skin lightening cream with the apricot scrub to kind of make it a dual affect to help the spots vanish more quickly, is this the right thing to do?
any suggestions of any other remedies that i can use?

Answer by Hyahoo Mumford
I wouldn’t mix them. I am assuming the black spots on your face are blackheads. Which you can squeeze them out. Just put a tissue around your fingers and then squeeze away! The reason for the tissue is so that you don’t get a ton of bacteria in your pores like you would with just your fingers. I hope this helps! Your Welcome.

I always used a normal acne cleanser but that wasn’t doing anything to treat the acne. I just went to the dermatologist last week and I got two gels to apply to my face, one just before bed and one in the morning. I can tell everything is going to clear up already.
The thing is, these are antibiotic gels and you would need to go to a dermatologist to get them, too. If you have insurance, these gels can run REALLY cheap, about as much as you would spend on the cleansers, so I would say make an appointment.
My doctor also said it may not be from just foods, all different people have different “allergies” to different foods. However, it’s a good idea to stray from greasy/fatty foods and replace them with fruits and vegetables, plus it’ll help your overall health!
Most of the time this mild/moderate acne is hormonal though, which you can’t do anything about. So, incase you decide to see a doctor, the main gel was called Aczone, it’s brand new and was just approved by the FDA back in November.
Good luck
